"This partnership with the LA Y is an important step in helping bridge the gap for our kids in high-need communities. At a time when public funds are stretched, public-private partnerships are critical. By working together with business, government and civil society, we will make a much greater impact than any one organization or sector could hope to achieve alone. The success of this partnership stands not only to strengthen our communities, but to nurture our business leaders of tomorrow."
- Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti
Targeted Communities

Weingart East Los Angeles YMCA serves the East LA and Boyle Heights neighborhoods, which are ranked as the fourth worst areas for educational attainment in the entire country. 47% of households in these areas also live below the federal poverty line.
Southeast-Rio Vista YMCA serves the Maywood, Vernon and Huntington Park neighborhoods, which are home to California's unhealthiest children. 53% of youth living in these areas are obese or overweight and 90% families contend with a lack of licensed childcare opportunities.
Crenshaw Family YMCA serves the Crenshaw, Baldwin Hills and Leimert Park neighborhoods, where more than 45% of adults are unemployed and 32% of residences are single-parent households.
Areas of Focus
Early Learning: Prepare youth (ages newborn-4) for kindergarten by connecting caregivers and children, who lack access to formalized preschool, with interactive learning activities.
Body & Mind: Provide engaging activities that develop youth's (ages 5-12) social/emotional, cognitive and physical abilities to bridge the achievement gap caused by severely reduced public school funding.
Afterschool Clubs: Create a safe haven where teens have access to opportunities that empower them to be socially responsible, college-bound or career-ready.
