On Sunday, April 21, Ys from across the country celebrated the 32nd Anniversary of Healthy Kids Day®. Here in Los Angeles, we proudly welcomed over 12,000 ticketholders and 6,000+ kid and family attendees.
The LA Memorial Coliseum was bustling with excitement as thousands of Angelenos enjoyed a fun day of play! Our annual Day of Play for LA featured sports activities from 10 different sports organizations (LA Clippers, LA Galaxy, LA Kings, LA Rams, LA Sparks, Los Angeles Dodgers Training Academy, United States Tennis Association, University of Southern California Men’s Lacrosse Club, Southern California Golf Association Jr., Angel City Football Club) who kept kids active, healthy and smiling all afternoon long. Live performances included our Westchester Family YMCA Battle of the Band participants — Trueblood, Standby and the Slurkeys – as well as Youth Class performances by the Mid Valley, Hollywood, Westchester and Anderson-Munger YMCA’s.
Kids received free bikes from our friends at Walk ‘n’ Rollers, over 70 pairs of Nike sneakers and over 5,000 Nike bags and sports balls from our partners at LA28, free kid savings accounts from the YMCA’s official credit union partner, SCE Credit Union and tons of free community resources and services from across the LA region.
Kids also enjoyed an amazing YMCA scavenger hunt, which took them on a tour of the YMCA’s program, services and initiatives, including youth swim lessons, teen development, summer day camp, sleepaway camp (including a rock climbing wall), youth sports, STEAM, youth enrichment classes, preschool and early learning, and so much more – from Cradle to Community Well-Being, every child and family found their place at the Y!
Over 300 volunteers participated in the Together In Service program, to support the event and make it a true success. In addition, we honored 15 families, community members and foundations with our first annual Healthy Kids Day Community Awards. On Friday, April 26, hundreds of attendees participated in family activities for Another Day of Play at their local community Y!
